This is the least populated area of France, resulting in the Limousin being a tranquil retreat, characterised by its green, rolling hills, charming medieval villages and ancient churches and castles.
Comprising three departments: Haute-Vienne, Creuse and Corrèze, this untouched region is now attracting visitors interested in outdoor pursuits such as walking, cycling, canoeing, kayaking and sailing.
For a more relaxing experience, the city of Limoges is famous for its fine enamel and porcelain, and Aubusson for its tapestries and carpets since the 16th century. The Limousin is also the home of the Golden Delicious apple and Damant Noir chocolates.
